This 203-unit dormitory project was the winner of an AIA Honor Award for Historic Preservation. Built in 1922, historic Stimson Hall on the WSU campus in Pullman, WA occupies a central campus site, surrounded by the architecture of new academic buildings. Stimson Residence Hall enjoys a strong alumni following, however, student occupancy was declining due to competition from off-campus apartments. Following the restoration and renovation of the building, there is a waiting list for students to occupy the suites that resulted from the redesign effort. Stimson Residence Hall is now a beautiful, dignified vintage ‘alum’ among other surrounding campus buildings.
